About Lodz

Lodz is located in central Poland, about 134 km from the country's capital, Warsaw. It is the third largest city in Poland, with 742 400 inhabitants.

Every year many tourists visit Lodz. The city holds many secrets and corners, which together allow visitors to discover the uniqueness of the city. In Lodz everyone can see traces of ancient and modern history.

History is closely linked with textile industry. There are many remains of old factories and new, restored monuments, which remember the heyday of Lodz - former textile power.

In Lodz there are two public universities - University of Lodz and Lodz Technical University, as well as numerous private academies and colleges. In the city there is also Lodz Film School, which educated many outstanding polish directors (eg. S. Bareja, K. Kieslowski, A. Osiecka) and actors (eg. Cezary Pazura, Małgorzata Foremniak).

Lodz is a large urban center, where there are many colleges and universities. City has also rich cultural and gastronomic offer. On Piotrkowska Street (4.2 km), one of the longest shopping streets in Europe, there are numerous pubs, shops and restaurants serving typical dishes of many cuisines of the world (eg. Polish, Turkish, Italian, Hungarian). On Piotrkowska Street there is also the heart of the city - Council of the City of Lodz.

Piotrkowska Street stretches from the Plac Wolności - the central square of Lodz in the shape of a regular octagon and ends at the Plac Niepodległości. Main thoroughfare running east-west street Piotrkowska Lodz divides into two parts: the first serves as a pedestrian area, the second is motorized. In the tourist season after the pedestrian street travel bus, which drive passengers between Plac Wolności - Al. Mickiewicza.

In Lodz there is also one of the largest shopping and entertainment service in Poland - Manufaktura which was established in the areas of the former factory buildings. In Manufaktura there are many attractions, e.g. a cinema, shopping centre, disco, sport club, pubs and restaurants.
